Budapest, July 11, 2024.

The Republic of Croatia participated in the High-Level Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation, held under the auspices of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia had the exceptional honor of presenting its achievements in this field.

The main goal of the conference was to engage health ministers and national policy makers from EU countries to ensure support and commitment to the further development and improvement of donation and transplantation programs. The emphasis was also on introducing such programs in countries where they do not yet exist and facilitating the exchange of experiences and discussion of different approaches to increase the availability of organs. New challenges and common priorities were identified to achieve further growth and development in this area.

The Republic of Croatia had the opportunity to showcase its experiences and concrete results achieved, along with examples of best practices from other member states. This, we believe, will serve as a guide for further development and enhancement of this aspect of public health for the benefit of all citizens of the European Union.

Representing the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia at the conference were Martina Anušić Juričić, MD, Head of the Transplantation and Biomedicine Sector, in the panel "Institutional and Political Framework", and Prim. Marina Premužić, MD, National Transplantation Coordinator, in the panel "High-Level Round Table - Organ Donation and Transplantation".

On this occasion, we would like to congratulate Hungary for highlighting the importance of organ donation and transplantation during its presidency and thank them for their warm welcome and organization of the conference.
